Delhi International Film Festival closed last night and to my amazement my film "Valley of Strength" (Gei Oni) based on Shulamit Lapid's novel won the top award -
"Best film" of the World Cinema section. By a strange coincident, in a very turbulent week here in Delhi, marked by protests and demonstrations regarding the horrible
gang rape of a 23 year old student, my film touches also on a story of a Jewish woman raped by Cossacks in a "Porgrom" in Russia in 1878. Maybe that is one of the reasons the audience and jury reacted to the film so strongly.
